The Southern Landscapes Collection is here!

I'm drawn to landscapes, first, because I wanted to improve as an artist painting landscapes. I find they are not easy and to make them something great, I really pushed myself further to make each one interesting, in some way. Secondly, This is my 2nd landscape collection and I believe there's always so much more to learn. I've always been drawn to nature, fields, mountains, and wildflowers.

I use to drive around Nashville looking for barns and fields to take pictures of (see above) for my black and white photography class. Since then, I'm always on the hunt for the perfect scene, the perfect field, and I still love going for drives around Knoxville to find them.

Finding beauty all around where I live and where I grew up is my inspiration for this collection. I see so much in a wild field that makes it perfect. The richness of the tree line, the wild dead and live grasses, Queen Anne's lace, and wildflowers. Living in East Tennessee, we are surrounded by so much beauty. The Smokies, the beautiful lakes, and tall trees. This wild nature is chaos to me, and I find patterns throughout nature that I look for when creating my paintings. I bring order to a painting by going through my painting process of laying out the scene, pushing the brushstrokes to create something peaceful, while still letting it feel a bit wild.

For this collection, I painted a few scenes that I'm familiar growing up with; beautiful lakes surrounded by the mountains and wild fields with rolling hills and trees of Tennessee. I love how a landscape can connect us, no matter where we are from. I've seen the same scene all along the East coast. What makes a landscape southern, may be how you see it and from where you are standing.

When I think about my home, I think about lush fields of grasses, beautiful lakes with gorgeous blue mountains in the background, and I think about the beautiful wildflowers growing by those mountains. These paintings represent the patterns of nature and the beauty I find here. They bring peace to the chaos. And through these paintings, I’m able to share that feeling with you. I hope you connect to that peace, especially these days when we need it the most. My hope is that you can bring that peace, that beauty, into your homes, lift your mood, and brighten your walls.
